A chaotic altercation at a Waterboro home Tuesday morning that had the potential to turn violent has resulted in the arrest of a Waterboro man and a juvenile. A third person remains at large, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff William L. King Jr. said Kenneth Brown, 21, of Waterboro was arrested after the encounter and charged with burglary, a Class B crime. Brown was being held Tuesday night at the York County Jail on $2,500 cash bail.

King said that Brown went to a home on New Dam Road around 10:45 a.m. for the purpose of “either selling or purchasing marijuana and possibly illicit drugs.” Instead of buying drugs, Brown, a 17-year-old juvenile, and a person described as a young adult male visitor became engaged in a confrontation involving weapons.

When the adult visitor threatened Brown with a 12-gauge shotgun, Brown countered by drawing a knife, King said. The man with the shotgun dropped the weapon and fled, as did the juvenile. Brown took possession of the shotgun. No one was injured.

Deputies located Brown and arrested him, but King said the investigation revealed that the juvenile and adult male “had conspired to rob Brown.” The adult male has been identified and warrants for his arrest have been issued.

The juvenile was arrested and taken to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
