One student was treated for minor injuries after a car hit a school bus in Dayton Tuesday morning.

The Dayton School Department’s bus No. 32 was traveling to Saco and was stopped at the intersection of Hight and Hollis roads just before 8 a.m. when it was hit by the car, according to school officials. There were 12 students on the bus and one was treated for what school officials describe as minor injuries.

Police are investigating the crash.

“We appreciate the unblemished safe driving record of drivers in Dayton. Fortunately this bus was at a complete stop at the time of the accident and our driver acted swiftly to ensure the safety of his student passengers, and we are cooperating with emergency response,” Superintendent Jeremy Ray said in a statement an hour after the crash. “We are in the process of interviewing witnesses and reviewing bus camera footage at this hour.”

School officials did not release the name of the bus driver and said no additional health updates about students will be available because of medical privacy laws.
