MINNEAPOLIS — Detroit outfielder JaCoby Jones said he felt lucky a day after being hit in the face by a pitch that later sparked a benches-clearing tussle between the Tigers and Minnesota Twins.

Jones was taken to the hospital Saturday after getting a scare when a pitch from Twins reliever Justin Haley left him bloodied and a little dazed. He needed nine stitches in his lip, but said he was still able to have dinner that night. Jones said he would have a few more tests when the team returned to Detroit but experienced no signs of a concussion.

“It could’ve knocked out all my teeth or struck me square in the eye,” Jones said Sunday. “I am lucky it hit me in my big lip and just made it bigger. It’s all good.”

Jones was placed on the 10-day disabled list, as was Haley with tendinitis in his right biceps.

Tigers starter Matthew Boyd was ejected later in the game after throwing behind Twins slugger Miguel Sano, who got into a shoving match with catcher James McCann as both benches cleared.

The Nationals plan to put Strasburg on the paternity list Monday, when they open a four-game series in Colorado. The team has not announced a scheduled starter for that game.

Strasburg’s next turn comes up Tuesday, but Washington bumped back Joe Ross a day into that slot.

Blue Jays: Right-handed pitcher Aaron Sanchez tested his blistered finger by throwing in the outfield. He plans to throw off a mound soon.

Royals: Catcher Salvador Perez missed his second straight game with neck stiffness. Manager Ned Yost said he was still day-to-day.

Rangers: Right-handed pitcher Sam Dyson, on the 10-day DL with a right hand contusion after losing his job as closer, will pitch an inning each Monday and Tuesday on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Round Rock. He can return to the Rangers on Friday.

Dodgers: Left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir (left hip strain) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday. There is no timetable for his return. Kazmir has been on the 10-day DL since March 30.

ROCKIES: First baseman Ian Desmond (broken left hand) is hitting off a tee and taking some soft-toss swings.

Giants: Outfielder Denard Span remains day to day after leaving the game Saturday with a sprained right shoulder. He crashed into the wall while making a catch.
