I was hoping someone would respond to what two letter writers wrote with regard to Donald Trump’s election.

Nick Pappas (April 4) drove through a history of Supreme Court nominations, taking a couple of side turns. What he said that was significant was that, because the Republicans won the election, “to the victors belong the spoils.” I would remind Mr. Pappas that that also applies to President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland over a year ago.

Then Barbara Britten (April 11) thought everyone should stop the political hostilities and give Trump the same chance that Obama got. Really? She must have forgotten the words of Mitch McConnell – “The most important thing we (Republicans) want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

McConnell and John Boehner refused to let their Republican colleagues in the Senate and House allow any of Obama’s policies to get the fair hearings and never acknowledged the legitimacy of his presidency. The Republicans are now spending all their time attempting to wipe Obama’s presidency out of the history books, and that will be part of history as well.

The politicos in D.C. are not fighting for the American people – they are greedily fighting for the attention of the cash cows that bought out our government and hide behind Citizens United.
