The front page story on May 1, about Daniel Sonenberg’s opera “The Summer King,” was a wonderful piece on so many levels. It is a great story about Josh Gibson, a talented baseball player who never got the recognition he deserved; Sonenberg’s artistry, faith and fortitude to work on this project for so many years and see it through to its performance at the prestigious Pittsburgh Opera; and all the investors and people who helped bring this opera to life.

With so much bad news dominating the media, reading this story was an uplifting way to start the day and month of May. Thank you to journalist Bob Keyes for writing this inspiring story, and to the Portland Press Herald for putting this positive story on the front page where it belongs!
