Registered nurses and other health care workers at Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough voted Thursday to join the Maine State Nurses Association, a professional organization and trade union, according to a release from the association.

The vote was 56 to 40. MSNA will represent over 110 registered nurses, licensed clinical social workers, nurses’ aides, housekeepers and other staff at the facility.

They will now join 2,000 other MSNA members as part of National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United. Workers were seeking improved staffing, smaller caseloads and fair wages, according to the release.
