Donald Trump’s non-response to the Turkish presidential security detail’s violent attack on American citizens, on American soil, is at the top of a long, long list of appalling actions by our current president.

In case you missed it, the Associated Press reported that last Thursday in Washington, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s “security detail” pushed through U.S. police officers to physically attack American protesters. The video backing the report shows men in suits kicking and punching protesters, two of whom were on the ground. Nine were injured. Two men who do not have diplomatic immunity were briefly detained, then all were allowed to return to Turkey.

This is beyond unacceptable. Our president, who invited Turkey’s oppressive strongman to the U.S. in the first place, should be held responsible for the deafening silence that has followed this outrageous act. Where is the rage?

If this were President Obama doing nothing over tea party protesters getting stomped on by forces of a foreign dictator, there would have been riots in the streets. What would President Reagan have done? Turkey needs to be slapped and slapped hard for this – but because of our current president’s affinity for warlords and our support for “allies in our war on terror,” (whatever that is) regardless of their actions, nothing will be done.

Instead, our King-in-Chief dined with rich Saudi royalty (whom he railed against during his campaign), no doubt wistfully dreaming of red carpets and gold fountains in the White House. He should stay there where they welcome him as one of their own.
