A Scarborough police officer was taken to Maine Medical Center on Tuesday after his cruiser was rear-ended by a woman who police allege was driving impaired.

In a news release posted on Facebook, the Scarborough Police Department said that officer Glenn Tucker called for an ambulance around 3:45 p.m. after his 2016 Ford Explorer – a marked cruiser – was hit from behind near the intersection of Route 1 and Sawyer Road.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the cruiser was identified as Taleisha Hale, 31, of South Portland. Hale, who was driving a 2002 Volvo V70, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

Tucker’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
