SANFORD — The North Adams SteepleCats scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning on Jonathan Engelmann’s sacrifice fly Tuesday night to edge the Sanford Mainers 2-1 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Goodall Park.

North Adams (13-19) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a bases-loaded walk.

The Mainers (12-20) tied it on a home run by Shaine Hughes in the fourth inning.

Alexander Pantuso picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out eight in 71/3 innings.

EMPIRE LEAGUE

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 8, SULLIVAN 5: Gevon Jackson hit a two-run double as part of a five-run bottom of the seventh as the Surge (13-11) beat the Explorers (12-12) at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.

Sullivan took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Calvin Graves hit an RBI single to start a three-run bottom of the second for the Surge.

Old Orchard’s five-run seventh extended the lead to 8-1.

Matt Picucci picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits over six innings.

Picucci struck out eight.

Edgar Lebron Jr. and Kevin Putkonen each had two hits for the Surge.

JUNIOR LEGION LEGION

YANKEE FORD 7, SACO & BIDDEFORD SAVINGS 3: Carson Sullivan had three hits, including a double, and Cole Hoffman scored three times as Yankee Ford (10-6) beat Saco & Biddeford Savings (9-7) at Wainwright Field in South Portland.

Cooper Hoffman pitched six strong innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three to earn the win.

Zach Fitts added two hits for Yankee Ford.

Ashton Crowell singled and drove in a run for Saco.

ANDREWS 3, YANKEE FORD 0: Jacob Knop went 3 for 4 with a double and Colin Coyne drove in two runs as Andrews (12-7) beat Yankee Ford (13-5) at Wainwright Field in South Portland.

Max Fortier picked up the win, allowing two hits and striking out three in 52/3 innings.

Coyne drove in Knop with a single in the top of the seventh to give Andrews a 3-0 lead.

Michael Doherty pitched a strong game for Yankee Ford, allowing one earned run and striking out three in five innings.
