Craft beer lovers will soon have a couple more choices for downing their favorite brews in Portland.

Jorgen Persson of Natick, Massachusetts, plans to open a new craft beer tavern at 320 Fore St. called the Old Port Tap House. The business will also serve pub food such as pretzels, sausages and cheese platters.

Persson is co-owner of the Craft Beer Cellar at 111 Commercial St. and has filed an application with the city to serve beer in a separate section of the store. In a letter filed with the application, Persson said his long-term goal is to partner with the Maine Brewer’s Guild and build out the shop to showcase the history of Maine brewing, run video streams of Maine brewers telling their stories, “and build up Portland as the number one beer destination in the country.”
