Re: “Cape council vote reignites ‘paper street’ debate in oceanfront neighborhood” (July 17):

Imagine the wealthy paying off public officials in order to get their way. Has this ever happened in this greed-driven capitalistic country? Only all the time!

But could it happen in Cape Elizabeth? We hope not, but what other possible explanation can be given when the rights of the town to a beautiful cliffside ocean-view trail are pitched against the few who own land (but don’t pay taxes on it) that is designated as a paper street, and that the town has already voted to keep for 20 more years?

What was decided last October can be undone with a few misguided town councilors. Wake up, Mainers! Another land grab is about to occur!
