BANGOR — Tim Greenlaw laced a three-run double to left-center in the eighth inning Thursday, breaking a tie and helping Coastal Landscape of Portland to a 6-2 victory against Fayette Staples of Saco in the American Legion baseball state tournament at Husson University.

Coastal remained alive in the eight-team double-elimination event. Fayette Staples was ousted.

Tim Smith singled home a run and also scored to give Fayette Staples a 2-0 lead in the first. Coastal tied it in the sixth when James Sinclair tripled home Griffin Watson and scored on Dylan Francoeur’s single.

PASTIME 8, BREWER 1: Brock Belanger drove home two runs and scored twice, and Hunter Landry had four hits, two RBI and a run, while leading Pastime of Lewiston past Brewer in an elimination game at Bangor.

Belanger drove home a run and also scored as Pastime opened the scoring with three runs in the fifth.

BANGOR 2, BESSEY MOTORS 0: Gary Farnham, with late relief help from Noah Missbrenner, outdueled Colton Carson to give Bangor a victory over Oxford Hills’ Bessey Motors in a winners’-bracket game at Bangor.

Tyler Parke and Zach Cowperthwaite doubled as Bangor broke through for the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. Ben Crichton then singled and scored in the seventh.

YANKEE FORD 12, WELLS 2: Matt Riggle had three hits, including a triple, and two RBI to lead Yankee Ford to a winners-bracket victory over Wells at Bangor.

Marshall Peterson, in a game shortened to seven innings because of the 10-run rule, allowed six singles while pitching the 62/3 innings.

REGENCY MORTGAGE SUMMER LEAGUE

BRUNO’S RESTAURANT 5, BIRD’S EYE PAINTING 2: Cam King capped a three-run first inning with a two-run triple as fourth-seeded Bruno’s took early control of its semifinal against top-ranked Bird’s Eye at Windham.

Bruno’s added a run in the fifth and King scored in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-0 before Bird’s Eye scored twice in its final at-bat.

SOUTH PORTLAND 7, GREELY 6: Jake Poole stole home in the seventh inning to send second-seeded South Portland into the championship game with a victory over sixth-ranked Greely at South Portland.

Poole led off the seventh with a double and advanced to third on Gus Lappin’s sacrifice. Poole broke for home as Noah McHugh attempted a suicide squeeze. McHugh missed but the ball got away as Poole slid home with the game-ending run.

UPPER VALLEY 1, SANFORD 0: Matt Saunders greeted reliever Jake Dexter with a run-scoring double in the eighth inning as the Nighthawks (28-13) defeated the Mainers (17-24) at White River Junction, Vermont.

Saunders’ hit was just the fourth allowed by the Mainers. Rothenberg had reached on an error.

Sanders finished with two of Upper Valley’s four hits. Sanford managed five hits off three Nighthawks pitchers.
