Photos of Sebago Lake sought for 2018 calendar

The Portland Water District is seeking photography submissions for potential inclusion in its 2018 Images of Sebago Lake calendar.

Only high-resolution photos will be accepted, and photographs must feature Sebago Lake or a tributary of Sebago Lake.

Submissions should include: name, email address, age (if under 21), mailing address, seasonal address (if applicable), month/time of year photo was taken, and the location featured in the photo.

Submitters agree to allow the district to use the images in the calendar and other materials. They will be credited when possible.

All photographers will receive a complimentary calendar. Deadline to submit is Aug. 6.

Grant aids programs for low-income homeowners

Avesta Housing in Portland has received a $10,000 charitable grant from KeyBank Foundation for its NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center. Avesta’s mission is to improve lives and strengthen communities by promoting and providing quality, affordable homes for people in need.

KeyBank’s funding will help Avesta provide free financial counseling and education to low-income applicants and residents to help them achieve and retain housing, and improve their overall financial health.

Volunteers can help make, donate no-stitch blankets

Libby Library’s Project Linus seeks individuals to make and donate no-stitch blankets, to be distributed to children in need.

Volunteers can drop by the library at 27 Staples St. to pick up a copy of instructions for making a blanket.

Youth ‘Misses’ pageant is Aug. 25 at fairgrounds

Contestants are being sought for the Miss Acton Fair Pageant in the categories of Junior Miss, ages 9 through 12, and Misses, ages 13 to 17.

Contestants will be judged on private interviews, talent and evening gown presentations.

The pageant will be held at 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the fairgrounds.

Training available for hospice volunteers

The VNA Home Health Hospice seeks volunteers who are willing to hold a hand, lend an ear, run an errand or provide a comforting presence to hospice patients in York and Cumberland counties.

Health care experience is not required, and training will be provided from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12, 19 and 26.

Springvale-South Sanford bus route adds new stops

York County Community Action’s transportation program, which provides year-round in-town bus service between Springvale and South Sanford, on Tuesday will add new stops to its bus route, without increasing ride times or causing delays in pickup or dropoff for its riders.

Scheduled runs are from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. The fares are $1 for riders over age 8 and 50 cents for younger riders, older adults and people with disabilities.

The vehicles are clean, equipped with wheelchair ramps and bike racks, and are driven by trained, experienced drivers.
