More than 20 yachts, pleasure boats and fishing vessels, decorated with Christmas lights and holiday ornaments, are expected to form a procession in Portland Harbor on Saturday evening in a colorful event benefiting the Toys for Tots program.

Portland Harbor Master Kevin Battle said the fourth annual Portland Harbor/Casco Bay Parade of Lights should begin around 8 p.m. It was to have been held Aug. 5, but bad weather forced the South Portland Lions Club, which organizes the event, to reschedule it to this Saturday.

Battle said the parade will last about 45 minutes. The boats, which will stage near House Island, will circle the harbor twice. Good places to view the parade are Fort Allen Park on Portland’s Eastern Promenade and Bug Light Park in South Portland.

Each boat, crew and passengers will donate new toys to the Toys for Tots program and all the toys will be distributed to children living in Maine in time for Christmas.
