An Anson woman arrested Monday night had attempted to bite a county deputy, kicked the window and door of a cruiser, and rammed her head against the plexiglass of the cruiser cage, police said.
Heather Suzanne Haley, 30, was arrested after Somerset County sheriff’s deputies were sent to a noise complaint about 11:30 p.m. Monday on Valley Road in Anson, Sheriff Dale Lancaster said. She remained held without bail Tuesday at the Somerset County Jail in East Madison.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found a maroon 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer that had apparently been backed out of a driveway into a ditch. No one was in the vehicle when deputies arrived, but they were soon greeted by a woman, later identified as Haley, who confronted the deputies on the road, Lancaster said.
He said Haley refused to identify herself at first and denied having been the driver of the Trailblazer, but said she was the owner.
“When deputies began further questioning about how the vehicle left the roadway, Haley became vocal and began cursing at the deputies,” Lancaster said. “Deputies warned Haley to calm down yet Haley continued to be uncooperative and attempted to retrieve items from the Trailblazer after being told by the deputies that she could not until they had completed their investigation.
“Haley continued yelling and cursing at the deputies and when she attempted to go back to her vehicle, she was arrested.”
While being arrested by Deputy Lucas Libby, Haley tried to bite the deputy on the forearm, Lancaster said. There was evidence of alcohol involvement, the sheriff said.
“She tried to bite him, but was unsuccessful,” he said. “It is an unfortunate situation, but it appears that she was out of control with her actions.”
While being taken to the Somerset County Jail, Haley continued to yell and curse at the deputy, the sheriff said.
Haley was charged with disorderly conduct, a Class E misdemeanor; refusing to submit to arrest, a Class D misdemeanor; and violating conditions of release, Class E. She is on conditions of release for prior criminal conduct, Lancaster said.
