The Altoona Curve are a first-place team. The Portland Sea Dogs are fighting to reach .500.

Altoona showed that winning edge Tuesday night, beating the Sea Dogs 5-3 before 6,321 at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs swatted 10 hits. Teddy Stankiewicz recorded his 11th quality start.

But Portland also couldn’t drive in enough runs, leaving 11 on base, including two bases-loaded squanders early.

Danny Mars, Henry Urrutia, Mike Olt and Jordan Procyshen had multiple-hit games for the Sea Dogs, who dropped to 57-61, in fourth place in the Eastern League East Division.

Altoona (63-57) remained in first place in the West.

Stankiewicz (4-5) got into trouble immediately. Leadoff hitter Cole Tucker tripled to right field. Pablo Reyes followed with his ninth home run, a shot over the left-field wall. Stankiewicz, in his second season with the Sea Dogs, lasted six innings (three runs on seven hits).

Mars began the bottom of the first with a single but was thrown out at second when he overslid the base. Altoona starter J.T. Brubaker (7-4) then walked the bases loaded, but Josh Ockimey struck out and Urrutia flied out.

Mars singled in a run in the second, but Portland missed another chance in the third, loading the bases again with one out. Josh Tobias popped out to short and Procyshen grounded out.

Altoona scored three in the seventh (two off reliever Josh Smith) for a 5-1 lead.

Portland scored two in the eighth, including a Procyshen RBI double.

Tate Scioneaux of Altoona recorded his 12th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
