SCARBOROUGH — Rachel Paradis scored with 1:47 remaining in the first half, and Lucia Malia and Caitlin Tyrrell added second-half goals as Scarborough beat South Portland 3-1 in an SMAA field hockey season opener Wednesday.

Malia made it 2-0 early in the second half, before Bonge Lako scored an unassisted goal to get South Portland on the board.

Tyrrell rounded out the scoring late in the game with an assist from Lauren Topchik.

Maddie Drolet stopped eight shots for the Red Riots, while Sam Carriero made three saves for Scarborough.

BIDDEFORD 8, DEERING 1: Sarrah Marcotte scored three goals, and Paige Laverriere added two goals and two assists as the Tigers rolled past the Rams in Portland.

Abby Allen also scored twice and assisted on a goal, and Hailey Allen collected three assists.

Ally Donovan scored for Deering.

THORNTON ACADEMY 6, PORTLAND 0: Taylor Ouellette scored two of her four goals in a one-minute span in the second half as the Golden Trojans pulled away from the Bulldogs at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Grace Harbour contributed a goal and an assist, and Claire Decker added a first-half goal. Catherine Henair chipped in with a pair of assists.

Jada McIlwain made 22 saves for Portland.

OAK HILL 3, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 1: Desirae Dumais scored two goals and Maegan Sheehy had two assists for the Raiders in a win over the Falcons in Wales.

Adele Surette also scored for Oak Hill, and Zoey Buteau added an assist.

Alyvia Lee scored for Mountain Valley

HALL-DALE 2, TELSTAR 1: Georgie Marston scored with one minute left in overtime to lift the Bulldogs to a win in Bethel.

Lauren Hendrickson also scored for Hall-Dale.

THORNTON ACADEMY: Michael Roux, an assistant coach for the Golden Trojans since 2009, has been promoted to head coach.

Roux has been coaching at various levels for 25 years. He assisted Shawn Rousseau in 2010-11 and Jamie Gagnon in 2011-12 when the Trojans won back-to-back Class A state championships.
