Maine State Historian Earle G. Shettleworth Jr. discusses midcentury modern residential, religious and civic architecture in a lecture titled “When Modernism Came to Maine” at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, in South Portland.

The talk is sponsored by Greater Portland Landmarks and will be followed by a reception at South Portland Public Library across the street. The reception will include tours of the library, which was built in 1967.
