FISHING DERBY
Togue of 33-plus inches wins derby on Sebago Lake
This year’s Sebago Lake Togue Derby that was held Sept. 9-10 marked the first time in the three-year history of the event that a winning fish exceeded 33 inches.
Robert Spindler of Standish caught the winning fish that weighed 14.33 pounds and was 33.25 inches long. Spindler said he caught the fish between Frye Island and Raymond Cape in the area known as the “gut” while drifting. He used a T4 Flatfish lure in tiger stripe while fishing in 60 to 80 feet of water, according to the Sebago Lake Angler’s Association.
Buddy Kearny finished second with a 4.42-pound togue that was 22.25 inches long. Ryan Kovats finished third with a 4.38-pound togue that was 22.87 inches long.
The top 10 finishers won cash prizes for the derby run out of Point Sebago.
