SOUTH PORTLAND — Sophie Chase broke a scoreless tie early in the second half and Hattie Tetzlaff converted a penalty kick for the eventual winning goal as seventh-seeded South Portland beat No. 10 Noble 2-1 in a Class A South girls’ soccer preliminary-round game Saturday.

The Red Riots (8-4-3) move on to face second-seeded Kennebunk in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Tetzlaff’s goal made it 2-0 with 10:56 remaining. Brenna Frye scored for Noble (6-7-2) with 7:31 left.

SACOPEE VALLEY 2, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 1: Gabbi Black scored 20 minutes into the first half and Breanna Humphrey got the eventual winner 30 seconds into the second half as the 11th-seeded Hawks (5-10) beat the sixth-seeded Seagulls (6-7-2) in a Class C prelim in Old Orchard Beach.

Sacopee moves on to play third-seeded Traip in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Emily Greenlee scored for OOB with eight minutes left.

WINSLOW 2, MEDOMAK VALLEY 0: Sarah Guimond scored in the 10th minute and third-seeded Winslow (12-2-1) allowed only one shot on goal in a Class B North prelim victory against No. 14 Medomak Valley (3-11-1) in Winslow.

Ashley Quirion clinched the victory with a goal in the 74th minute as the Black Raiders set up a quarterfinal Tuesday against archrival Waterville.

VOLLEYBALL

BIDDEFORD 3, PORTLAND 0: Grace Martin had 12 kills and four aces as the third-seeded Tigers (12-3) swept the sixth-seeded Bulldogs (8-7) in a Class A quarterfinal in Biddeford.

Grace Boisvert and Mia Martel each chipped in with five kills and combined for five aces as Biddeford won, 25-15, 25-10, 25-14.

Abby Krieckhause had six kills for Portland.

Biddeford moves on to the semifinals Wednesday against second-ranked Scarborough.

DEERING 3, BONNY EAGLE 0: Maddy Broda supplied multiple digs, Catherine Balzano sparked the top-ranked Rams with her serving and Avery Donovan contributed timely kills as Deering (14-1) defeated the ninth-seeded Scots (6-10) in Portland, 25-17, 25-22, 25-18.

Broda finished with four aces, 26 assists and 10 digs. Donovan tallied 13 kills and a block, Dianne Dervis collected two aces, two kills and 10 digs, Rachel Pardi had three blocks, and Divine M’Bambi chipped in with nine kills.

Bonny Eagle’s Mia Ferrante recorded four aces, two digs and six kills. Whitney Regan added 22 assists and two aces, and Jenna Litif had two blocks, four kills and an ace.

SOUTH PORTLAND 3, GORHAM 1: Molly Mawhinney had 18 kills and seven aces to lead the fifth-seeded Red Riots (9-6) past the fourth-seeded Rams (9-6) in a Class A quarterfinal in Gorham, 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 28-26.

Ashlee Aceto recorded 32 assists and two aces for South Portland, which meets top-seeded Deering in the semifinals on Wednesday. Kaleisha Towle chipped in with seven kills and two blocks.

YARMOUTH 3, ELLSWORTH 0: Marie LeBlanc recorded six kills and six aces as the second-seeded Clippers (14-1) swept the seventh-seeded Eagles (7-8) in a Class B quarterfinal in Yarmouth.

The Clippers move on to host third-seeded Falmouth in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Kaitlyn Bennett contributed eight kills and Skylar Bennett had six aces for Yarmouth, which won 25-18, 25-15, 25-13.

Olivia Robidoux had 10 kills for Ellsworth, while Shelby Cote added two aces to go with eight digs.

GREELY 3, MT. DESERT ISLAND 0: Jane Grandchamp had nine digs and eight kills as the fifth-seeded Rangers (8-7) swept the fourth-seeded Trojans (9-6) in a Class B quarterfinal in Bar Harbor, 25-20, 25-17, 25-12.

Morgan Selby added six kills and seven digs for Greely, which moves on to face top-seeded Cape Elizabeth in the semifinals on Wednesday.
