I write in opposition to Question 1 on the November statewide ballot.

If past casino measures are any guide, passing this question will lead to the enrichment of the sponsors, the sending of money out of Maine, the addition of one more amusement place that will be abused by those who cannot control their urge to gamble, another meeting place for the consumption, the sale of illegal and harmful drugs and a virtual certainty that the backers’ promises of lower taxes and improved schools will not be kept.

Please join me in voting “no” on statewide Question 1.
