TAMPA, Fla. — Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov became the seventh set of teammates in NHL history to start the season with point streaks of at least 11 games Thursday night, and the surging Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2.

Kucherov got his 12th goal in the first period and set up Stamkos’ power-play goal from the low left circle that put Tampa Bay (9-1-1) up 2-1 at 6:22 of the third.

The duo also tied Martin St. Louis’ team season-opening point streak set in 2009-10.

Andrei Vasilevskiy of Tampa Bay made 29 saves in his 100th NHL game and 50th win (50-33-8).

HURRICANES 6, MAPLE LEAFS 3: Josh Jooris scored twice, Teuvo Teravainen had a three-point night and Carolina won at Toronto.

RANGERS 5, COYOTES 2: Pavel Buchnevich scored twice and added an assist, rookie Boo Nieves had three assists and New York won at home.

Michael Grabner had two goals, Chris Kreider also scored and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 27 shots to help the Rangers get their third victory of the season.

PENGUINS 2, JETS 1: Phil Kessel’s 300th career goal at 1:07 of overtime lifted Pittsburgh at home.

PANTHERS 8, DUCKS 3: Radim Vrbata recorded his seventh career hat trick to lift Florida at Sunrise, Florida.

KINGS 4, CANADIENS 0: Jonathan Quick stopped 40 shots for his 46th career shutout, Adrian Kempe and Tyler Toffoli scored 11 seconds apart in the first period and Los Angeles won at Montreal.

SENATORS 5, FLYERS 4: Jean-Gabriel Pageau had a goal and two assists, Erik Karlsson added two assists and Ottawa won at home.

WILD 6, ISLANDERS 4: Eric Staal had a goal and assist, Luke Kunin and Zack Mitchell each scored their first NHL goals, and Minnesota won at St. Paul, Minnesota.
