There’s a great deal of confusion surrounding the Affordable Care Act open enrollment season, which started Nov. 1 (“On the health care precipice: ACA sign-ups to begin amid cutbacks, turmoil,” Oct. 30).

Americans with questions should consider reaching out to health insurance agents and brokers for help.

Eighty-four percent of consumers who received assistance when shopping on the exchanges said that these industry experts were helpful, according to a 2014 survey by the Urban Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Nearly three in four agents report spending “most” or “a lot” of their time explaining coverage options to clients, the Kaiser Family Foundation found.

Insurance agents can help Americans sort through the confusion and make informed enrollment decisions.
