Red Claws remain unbeaten by defeating Erie, 116-101

Josh Adeyeye scored 18 of his team-leading 20 points in the first half, including 4 of 5 from behind the arc, to help the Maine Red Claws (3-0) pull away to a 116-101 victory against the Erie BayHawks (0-3) in an NBA G League game.

Daniel Dixon had 19 points and Andrew White added 18 for Maine, which had seven players in double digits in its first road game of the season.

Raphiael Putney scored 23 points and Craig Sword added 17 for Erie.

PGA: Patrick Rodgers made four straight birdies to take the lead before it was too dark to continue at the storm-delayed OHL Classic at Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Rodgers was at 11 under with three holes remaining in the second round. He was one shot ahead of Rickie Fowler, who also had three holes remaining, and Patton Kizzire, who posted a 70 for the clubhouse lead at 10-under 132.

LPGA: Shanshan Feng carded a 1-over 73 to take a one-shot lead after the third round of the Blue Bay tournament at Hainan, China.

CHAMPIONS: Defending champ Paul Goydos, and major winners Vijay Singh and Lee Janzen shot 7-under 64 to share the first-round lead in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Phoenix.

EUROPEAN: Victor Dubuisson came through a day of strong winds and thunderstorms to hold a two-shot lead after two rounds of the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City, South Africa.

HOCKEY

U.S. WOMEN: Kacey Bellamy scored on a power play at 4:23 of the first period and the United States beat Sweden 5-0 at Wesley Chapel, Florida, to reach the championship game of the Four Nations Cup.

The Americans will take on Canada on Sunday looking for their eighth overall title in this tournament and third straight. This fall the United States has won two of the first three games against Canada, its biggest rival.

SOCCER

WORLD CUP: Italy was left at serious risk of failing to qualify for the first time since 1958 by losing at Sweden 1-0 in the opening leg of their playoff at Solna, Sweden.

Substitute Jakob Johansson scored shortly after the hour mark with a shot from the edge of the area that deflected in off Daniele De Rossi. After a long throw-in, Ola Toivonen headed the ball out to Johansson and his deflected drive wrong-footed the goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon.

Honduras held Australia to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their intercontinental playoff at San Pedro Sula, Honduras, leaving a spot at Russia still very much at stake in next week’s return leg in Sydney.

TENNIS

FED CUP: CoCo Vandeweghe will play in the opening match of the final Saturday when the United States takes on Belarus at Minsk, with the Americans looking to break a 17-year championship drought.

Vandeweghe was drawn to face Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first singles match. The U.S. Open champion, Sloane Stephens, will then play Aryna Sabalenka.
