Falmouth freshman Sofie Matson and Yarmouth senior Luke Laverdiere earned second team all-Northeast honors at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional cross country championships Saturday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York City.
Matson placed 14th in the seeded girls’ race in a time of 18 minutes, 46.7 seconds for the 5-kilometer course. Marlee Starliper of Wellsville, Pennsylvania won in 17:45.5 to become one of 10 girls qualifying for the national championships in San Diego on Dec. 9. The time of the 10th-place finisher was 18:25.6.
In the boys’ seeded race, Laverdiere placed 17th in 16:12.5. Tristan Shelgren of Boxborough, Massachusetts won in 15:32.8. All 10 national qualifiers ran faster than 16 minutes, and hail from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania as well as Massachusetts.
The 10 girls advancing to San Diego are from New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Maryland, Rhode Island and New Jersey as well as Pennsylvania.
