MANCHESTER, N.H. — A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for beating a man to death in a Manchester park.

The New Hampshire Attorney General said 35-year-old Jonathan Bijeol pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced Friday. Police found 61-year-old Richard Carlson dead near a Manchester baseball field in August 2016.

Prosecutors accused Bijeol of striking Carlson repeatedly in the head, face, neck and upper torso.

WMUR-TV reports that Bijeol in a Friday court appearance said he was high on meth at the time. Bijeol apologized and said that was no excuse for the killing.

Prosecutors called the attack violent and random.
