The post office in Ogunquit is closed until further notice because it was hit by a vehicle on Friday.

The vehicle crashed into the building at 172 Main St. , causing structural damage that will need to be assessed by an engineer before repairs can be made, according to the U.S. Postal Service. There is no timeline for when the lobby of the post office will reopen.

Ogunquit police said the lieutenant authorized to release information about the incident was off until Monday and no details were immediately available, including if anyone was injured.

Delivery of mail to local homes and businesses will not be affected by the closure of the Ogunquit post office.

Box holders can pick up their mail at the Wells post office starting Saturday. Postal officials recommend people bring a photo ID when they pick up their mail. Customers who need to mail material can use the post offices in Wells, Moody or Cape Neddick.
