A Sidney man was found dead Thursday near Hatch Cove in Great Pond in Belgrade with his unmanned boat moving in circles nearby, authorities said.

The body of George F. Bonney, 64, was recovered from the lake just before noon, according to a news release from Cpl. John MacDonald, of the Maine Warden Service.

Game Warden Kris MacCabe was able to jump into it the 16-foot boat and shut off the motor, the release said.

A member of the Belgrade Fire Department found Bonney’s body floating without a life jacket in about 7 feet of water.  The body was sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta to determine the manner and cause of death.

MacDonald said the death is under investigation.
