A couple walked past my house on a rural road, side-by-side with their backs to traffic. I was taught in grade school many years ago to walk facing traffic.

Please help inform folks that they should walk on the left side of the road facing traffic.

When a car hits a pedestrian, it is a tragedy not only for the family and friends of the person hit, but also for the driver and the driver’s family and friends.

No driver intentionally hits a person, but it happened 22 times in Maine last year. When we walk facing traffic, we can jump out of the way if it looks like a car will hit us. We’ll be mad as hell, but we’ll be alive.
