A body found inside a burned home in Poland on Saturday morning is believed to be that of the 65-year-old man who lived there, the State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Firefighters responded at 7:45 a.m. to a residential fire on Tiger Hill Road. Once they extinguished the blaze, they discovered a dead adult male inside the residence, who investigators believe was resident Michael Murphy, said Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Poland, Oxford and Mechanic Falls fire departments responded, along with the Mechanic Falls Police Department and the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

Emergency workers at the scene called the State Fire Marshal’s Office, whose investigation was still in progress late Saturday afternoon.

The state medical examiner in Augusta is scheduled to conduct an autopsy on the body Sunday, Moss said.
