Will Green, Mt. Desert Island senior: Class B diving state champion for the third year in a row. Compiled a score of 448.70 points, the highest in either state meet and a Class B record, surpassing a mark set in 1984.

Talor Hamilton, Ellsworth junior: The Class B state championship performer of the meet, Hamilton won the 100 butterfly in 51.73 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 52.26. His butterfly time was fastest in the state, as was his 50 free (21.46) at the PVC championships.

Harry Homans, Cape Elizabeth freshman: Won two individual events to lead the Capers to their first Class B state title. Time of 4:48.12 in the 500 free broke a school record that had stood since 1978. Won the 200 individual medley in 1:58.78.

Kevin Kane, Cheverus junior: Won the 200 individual medley in 1:57.66 and placed third in the 100 butterfly. Also swam on the victorious 200 and 400 free relays to help the Stags win their third straight Class A state title.

Mark McCluskey, Camden Hills senior: Won the Class B 50 freestyle state title in 22.07 and was runner-up in the 100 butterfly. He also swam on Camden Hills’ winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Michael O’Donovan, Cheverus junior: Placed second at the Class A meet in the 200 and 500 free with times (1:41.82 and 4:42.76) that would have comfortably won in Class B. He also anchored Cheverus’ winning 200 and 400 free relays.

Jake Perron, Falmouth senior: The Class A state championship performer of the meet won the 200 free (1:41.32) and the 500 free (4:38.71). He is a six-time individual state champion who won the 50 and 500 free as a junior and the 500 twice in Class B.

Colby Prouty, Bangor freshman: One of only two schoolboy swimmers in Maine to break one minute in the 100 breast stroke, Prouty won the Class A title in 59.57. He also posted top-10 times in the 200 IM (2:02.99) and 100 backstroke (57.37).

Nate Samson, Brunswick junior: Set a Class A meet record in the 100 freestyle (46.64) narrowly missing the state mark of 46.60. Samson also posted the state’s top times in the 200 IM (1:57.01) and 100 backstroke (51.37) and placed third in the 200 free.

Greg Violette, Westbrook senior: One of two individual double-winners in the Class A state meet, Violette won the 100 butterfly in 52.01 and the 100 backstroke in 52.10. He was also named performer of the meet at Southwesterns.

Coach of the Year

Phil Emery, Bangor: After 46 years, the dean of Maine coaches – not just in swimming but in any sport – is retiring. The Rams won 26 Class A state titles during his tenure as boys’ swimming coach. Emery is a member of two state halls of fame (sports and swimming).
