The festival offers the opportunity to browse the work of dozens of local and regional artists. There will also will be activities for children, food and music, and Mayor Tom Blake will confer awards to artists and student artists in the afternoon.
The judges' tent, with one submission by each artist in the show, will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The student art tent, featuring work by students in South Portland schools, will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, visit www.artintheparkmaine. com. n Maine State Ballet will present George Balanchine's classic ballet ''Serenade'' at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Aug. 14-15 at its theater in Falmouth, 348 U.S. Route 1.
A former member of Balanchine's New York City Ballet and a repetiteur for the Balanchine Trust, Maine State Ballet artistic director Linda Miele was granted the ''Serenade'' rights for the third time in the past decade.
Katie Farwell, who has danced many lead roles for Maine State Ballet, will dance in the ''Serenade'' role that has become known as the Dark Angel. Tickets cost $15. Call 781-7672.
n Singer and pianist Kate Schrock will perform a series of free shows with drummer Todd Richard at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17 and Aug. 30-31 at the Historic Brunswick Hotel, 39 W. Grand Ave., Old Orchard Beach. Admission is free, and the music will be outdoors if the weather cooperates. Call 590-1198.
