L.L. Bean concert crowd urged to bring food to give

L.L. Bean is asking concert-goers attending its free summer concerts to bring along a nonperishable food item to be donated to food pantries.

The concerts are held at L.L. Bean's Discovery Park. This Saturday's concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and features singer/songwriter Dar Williams.

Food items and any cash donations will go to the Wayside Soup Kitchen and the Freeport Community Center.

CAMDEN

Chef to give talk on how to store foods in root cellar

Cheryl Wixson, resident chef at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, will give a presentation on root cellaring at noon Aug. 11 at the Merrysrping Nature Center.

Wixson will explain creating and maintaining a root cellar. She'll go over storage requirements of various fruits and vegetables and will suggest ways to incorporate local foods into meal planning.

The presentation is free for Merryspring members and children, and $5 for nonmembers. For more information, call 236-2239 or go to www.merryspring.org.
