Kevin Profenna Hutchins of Portland and Charlene Wehrle of Oakland submitted winning recipes in the contest sponsored by MaineToday.com. The winners were chosen by a panel of local chefs.
Hutchins' recipe was for lamb chops with shallots, rosemary and red wine, and featured Maine-bred meat and produce from the Portland Farmer's Market.
Wehrle entered Mom's Red Flannel Hash, a recipe that encourages cooks to grow the ingredients, which include beets, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and turnips. All of the recipes that were entered can be found at www.mainetoday.com/contests/bestmainemeal.html.
Hayward is the chef/owner of Fore Street and Landry is the chef/owner of the Farmer's Table. In addition cooking with the chefs, Hutchins and Wehrle won an overnight stay at the Camden Harbour Inn.
