— From staff reports

HERSHEY, Pa. — Steve Pinizzotto scored a short-handed goal with 7:25 remaining to give the Hershey Bears a 3-2 victory over the Portland Pirates in an AHL game before a crowd of 10,727 at Giant Center on Sunday night.

The Bears were killing a four-minute minor for high-sticking to Mathieu Perreault when Pinizzotto and Andrew Joudrey broke into the Pirates' zone and Pinizzotto beat goalie Jhonas Enroth with a slap shot.

Portland grabbed a 2-1 lead with two goals in less than 30 seconds early in the second period. Jeff Cowan scored on a backhander at 2:06 with assists from Felix Schutz and Joe DiPenta, and Philip Goguila beat Hershey goalie Jason Bacashihua through the pads at 2:34 for his first AHL goal.

Andrew Gordon started the Bears' comeback with his sixth of the season at 5:52 of the third.

Bacashihua stopped 21 shots as he helped Hershey improve to 5-4. Enroth made 32 saves for Portland, which fell to 3-7.

The Pirates return home to face the Lowell Devils at 7 p.m. Friday.
