Portland Pirates rookies Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy will not participate in the AHL All-Star game and other events scheduled for Sunday and Monday at Worcester, Mass.
The AHL announced the two forwards will miss the event because of health reasons. Both were selected to play for the PlanetUSA team.
Gerbe, who leads the Pirates with 19 goals, missed his third consecutive game Friday night because of the flu.
Kennedy, who leads Portland forwards with 25 assists, has played in the last two games, but he's scheduled to undergo two procedures to repair damage that occurred when he was hit in the mouth with a stick in a game against Manchester last Saturday night.
Mark Mancari, who leads the Pirates in scoring with 42 points in 37 games, will play for the Canadian team.
