Trojans rally for OT victory

GORHAM — Alex Howard scored a disputed tying goal just before the regulation buzzer, and Dakota Matthews scored 1:22 into overtime Monday to give Thornton Academy (10-2-1) a 3-2 boys' hockey win over Scarborough (5-6-2) at USM Ice Arena.

Thornton opened the scoring 3:49 into the game on a power-play goal by Seth Prior. Brian McKeown's power-play goal tied it at 3:49 of the second period, and Andrew Nigro gave Scarborough a 2-1 lead at 2:45 of the third.

MHW 5, BRUNSWICK 4: Erik Ogren scored on a penalty shot with 48 seconds remaining to give the Maranacook/Hall-Dale/Winthrop co-op team a win over the Dragons (6-8) at Kents Hill.

Jared Bornstein scored twice for MHW (6-8-1), and Rob Burnell and Mike Knowlton added a goal apiece.

Conor Kelly had two goals and two assists for Brunswick. Carl Sickel and Cody Smith also scored.

GIRLS' HOCKEY

SCARBOROUGH 10, CAPE ELIZABETH/WAYNFLETE 3: Abby Rutt recorded a hat trick, and Marina Sterrer added two goals and two assists as the Red Storm (12-6) ended their regular season with a win over Cape Elizabeth-Waynflete (4-11-3) at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Jordan Finley also scored two goals for Scarborough, which led 7-2 at the end of the first period.

Sasha Timpson had a pair of goals for Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete.

BOYS' BASKETBALL

THORNTON ACADEMY 63, KENNEBUNK 38: Andrew Shaw scored 20 points and James Ek added 15, including four 3-pointers, as the Trojans (12-4) cruised to a win over the Rams (1-15) at Saco.

Tom Littlefield chipped in with 10 points for the Trojans, who outscored the Rams 19-7 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 24 points.

Kennebunk was paced by Vann Brazz with 15 points and Matt Dube with 11.

A.R. GOULD 59, SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 55: Ian Nono scored 21 points and pulled down 21 rebounds to lead the Bears (10-0) past the Guardians (5-11) at South Portland in the completion of a game that was suspended on Jan. 13 because of a severe injury to a player.

The score was tied at 52 with 4:13 left in regulation with the game resumed.

Nono had three points and a key rebound in the closing minutes.

George Hopkins added 10 points for the Bears.

Seacoast Christian was paced by Jay Archer with 22 points. Jon Gould scored 11.

LAKE REGION 59, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 35: Matt Langadas had 18 points and Travis Linehan added 14 for the Lakers (11-6) against the Raiders (3-14) at Naples.

Andre Gadsen scored 16 points for Fryeburg.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

SOUTH PORTLAND 46, PORTLAND 38: Danielle DiBiase had 11 points and Abby Hasson and Tayla Genesio each added eight for the Red Riots (10-7) in a win over the Bulldogs (4-12) at South Portland.

Jill Russell and Nicolette Kapothanasis each scored 12 points for Portland.

GEORGES VALLEY 50, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 34: Jill Bradbury scored the first nine points of the game and finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Buccaneers (8-9) over the Mustangs (3-14) at Thomaston.

Holly Ames-Allan added nine points and 10 rebounds, and Kennadi Grover scored 12 points.

Monmouth was led by Kristine Kahl with 12 points.

GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 40, HEBRON ACADEMY 33: Robyn Waugh and Liz Garland each had 11 points for the Lions (8-7) against the Lumberjacks (11-7) at Hebron.

Malorie Johnson scored 12 points and Emily Powers added 10 for Hebron.

HALL-DALE 41, LISBON 29: Taylor Massey scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs (13-4) past the Greyhounds (13-4) at Farmingdale.

Renee Moore led Lisbon with 12 points.

MADISON 41, LIVER-MORE FALLS 30: Ali Russell scored 17 points as Bulldogs (13-4), ranked first in Western Class C, beat the fourth-ranked Andies (12-5) at Madison.

JAY 59, CARRABEC 42: Alexis Blodgett scored 17 points and Beth Moore added 15 to lead the Tigers (12-5) to a win over the Cobras (7-10) at North Anson.
