Wells wins opener on late goal

WELLS — Hope Beisswanger scored with eight seconds left Tuesday -- her fourth goal of the game -- to lift Wells to a 14-13 victory against Bonny Eagle in a schoolgirl lacrosse opener.

Candy Wolterbeek added four goals and one assist, and Lily Colley had three goals and two assists for Wells. Kate Boyer and Becky King scored four goals each for the Scots.

CHEVERUS 9, MARSHWOOD 4: Grace Fitzpatrick scored three goals for the Stags in an opener at Portland.

Bethany Schleh and Meghan MacGillivray each added two goals and an assist for Cheverus. Mallory McPherson had two goals and an assist for Marshwood.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 11, MASSABESIC 9: Rachel Darby broke a 9-9 tie with 1:16 remaining and the Panthers won an opener at Waterboro.

Darby finished with four goals; Elizabeth Clemetson and Courtney Dumont added two each for NYA.

FREEPORT 10, NOBLE 5: Emily Drummond had five goals as the Falcons won an opener at Freeport.

Carson Waterman scored three goals for Noble.

PORTLAND 16, MCAULEY 15: Nancy McAdam scored seven goals to pace the visiting Bulldogs in an opener at Portland.

SCARBOROUGH 15, GREELY 7: Ellie Morin had six goals and an assist, and Lindsay Hagerman added three goals and four assists as the Red Storm won an opener at Scarborough.

WAYNFLETE 14, YORK 6: Amanda Aiken scored four goals to pace Waynflete in an opener at Portland.

WESTBROOK 7, SOUTH PORTLAND 4: Meliah Leighton had two goals and two assists, and Emily Wight also scored twice to lead the Blue Blazes in an opener at South Portland.

LINCOLN ACADEMY 13, CAMDEN HILLS 6: Ari Clifford, Katrina Belle and Molly Stackhouse scored three goals each as Lincoln Academy (1-1) beat Camden Hills (0-2) at Newcastle.

SANFORD 10, THORNTON ACADEMY 9: Sarah Alexander scored in sudden-death overtime to lift Sanford in an opener at home.

SOFTBALL

KENNEBUNK 2, WESTBROOK 1: Dee McNamara scored on an infield out in the fourth inning and Janelle Bouchard tripled home Katie Lang in the fifth as the Rams (3-0) downed Westbrook (2-1) at Kennebunk.
