Even if you had Monday off the week's can seem very long this time of year. By Thursday you'll want to get back to Laser Fest at Southworth Planetarium. The event's held every February during school vacation week and today's shows are at noon, 2, 3, 7 and 8 p.m. Check the website for show sched and plan to pay $5 per person ($1 more for 3D glasses).

Smartphone users who still haven't gotten the hang of all those apps can attend a free workshop from U.S. Cellular today from noon to 2 p.m. at the Greater Portland Regional Chambers of Commerce. Get questions answered about Android-powered Electrify, HTC 7 Pro Windows phones, the BlackBerry Torch 9850, the company's mobile tablets and more.

Biddeford arts organization Engine is hosting an opening receptions for "MERC: Mainers Recycling Cardboard" on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Sixteen artists were invited to create 2D and 3D pieces of art with corrugated cardboard as the primary component of the work. Tonight is the city's Final Friday ArtWalk so there will be plenty of other exhibits to see. Light refreshments will be provided at the Engine show.

A good music option tonight is at Local Sprouts in Portland where Tricky Britches plays bluegrass at 7 p.m. The show is free but donations are welcome.

The hits, blocks and whips will live and in person Saturday when Maine Roller Derby's Calamity Janes take on Montreal Roller Derby's Montreal Sexpos at Happy Wheels at 5 p.m. Tickets are just $5 and if you leave the kids at home you can also swing over to the after-party at Flask Lounge at 9 p.m. There's no cover.

When it comes to cool music, Hoboe is right up there. Tonight the oboe-centric rock group plays George Harrison songs in celebration of his 69th birthday at Spring Point Tavern. Music starts at 9 p.m. and there's no cover.

Screen stars will be strolling the red carpet Sunday in Hollywood. You can see them and the Oscar winners at the annual party hosted by the Strand Theatre. Admission is free and in addition to viewing the festivities on the big screen, you may also win prizes. Be there at 6:30 p.m.

Those who would rather watch a film - and a good one - can head to York Public Library for the latest in the Winter and Spring Film Series. Today's 3 p.m. screening is of "The Debt" and it's a freebie.
