Hoppy Happenings is a weekly segment posted on every Wednesday to provide brief updates on the Maine craft beer scene and news.
Tonight, Funky Bow Brewing will be doing a beer night at Little Tap House and will be pairing their beers with oysters from Ebenecook Oysters out of Boothbay Harbor. $2.99 for all pints of Funky Bow beer or $5.99 for the beer and oyster pairings. Begins at 5pm.
Oxbow Brewing has announced that it will be hosting a CSA pick up of Piggy Back Farm shares this winter. The pigs from Piggy Back have made their home at Oxbow as of late, and have been steadily munching on spent grain directly from the brewery. The CSA includes both pork and veggies, as well as other specialty foods. Shares can be picked up at either the Oxbow brewery or in Portland. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
**Update: The Portland-based location for the share pickup will be at Rising Tide Brewing.
Brewery in planning Foundation Brewing has cleared a major milestone in the process by getting approval from the Alcohol & Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (a.k.a the TTB) - meaning that they are allowed to begin brewing beer. They have also recently installed the walk-in refrigeration unit, formerly installed at Bull Jagger brewing.
Speaking of Bull Jagger, I happened to spy some tweets alerting me to the fact that the last keg of Bull Jagger's Baltic Porter was being put on at Bull Feeny's, and managed to head over to get a few pints of it. Many of the local brewing community showed up - as well as brewer Tom Bull (pictured, left) and Bull Feeny's owner, Doug Fuss (right). The group chatted, reminisced and schemed about the future. The beer was delicious, and had held up incredibly well - its mellow roastiness just as good, if not better, than the day it was brewed. While sad to see that beer vanish from existence as the last pints were poured, the atmosphere was more one of optimism towards new beginnings.
If you have news about Maine beer or have tips to share, email email@example.com and they might make it into a Hoppy Happening!
