PORTLAND — The Maine Red Claws are getting reinforcements from the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics announced today that two rookies, 7-foot center Fab Melo and 6-7 forward Kris Joseph have been assigned the Red Claws, the D-League affiliate for Boston.
This is the first year that the the Red Claws and Celtics have an exclusive affiliation deal.
The Celtics are in charge of personnel decisions for the Maine team, and can also send players down from their NBA club.
Both Melo and Joseph were both drafted out of Syracuse last year. Neither figured to get much playing time in Boston this season, so playing for the Red Claws gets them needed experience.
The Red Claws will play an intra-squad game at Edward Little High this Saturday night. They open the regular season Nov. 23, and begin their home schedule Nov. 30.
