The Maine Red Claws officially set their roster Wednesday, releasing guard Corey Allmond.
The move puts the Red Claws roster at 10, plus two NBA players (guard/forward Kris Joseph and center Fab Melo). The NBA D-League allows teams a maximum of three NBA players to join its roster.
Almond, 24, was a 6-foot-2 shooting guard with two years of pro experience, mostly with the Fort Wayne Mad Ant of the D-League.
Allmond had a nice shooting touch, but the Red Claws had several players who can moved into the shooting guard spot.
“We just felt there was a logjam of players on the wing,” said Maine coach Mike Taylor, who began listing his two-guard options: “ Kris Joseph, Micah Downs, Champ Oguchi, Omar Reed, Xavier Silas.”
The Red Claws open the season Friday in Canton, Ohio. Their home opener is Sept. 30.
