Can you believe Maine Roller Derby has been in Portland since 2006? Time's flown since a handful of dedicated skaters began holding practices and hosting bouts in the city.

Since March is now fully upon us, you know it's time for another Lucky Lass Throwdown, which has become a signature event for MRD every season 'round about St. Patrick's Day.
This year's big bout happens Saturday at Happy Wheels Skate Center from 5 to 8 p.m. Our own Port Authorities take on the Rock Coast Rollers from up Route 1 in Rockland. Rock Coast has faced both MRD's "B" team, the Calamity Janes, and the "C" squad, the R.I.P. Tides, but the St.Paddy's Day-themed bout will be the visitors' first against the All Star Port Authorities.
If you've never seen MRD's hard-hitting action, now's the time. Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door and kids 5 years and under get in free.
The after-party's happening at The Frosty Pint just around the corner on Forest Ave. There will be plenty of beers on tap, and word is there may even be leg wrestling.
