It's not often you get a chance to save a life. Particularly during your work day. Or at one of the city's busiest office buildings.

Thursday you can get that chance when the Dirigo Management PretiFlaherty Blood Drive happens from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second floor of One City Center.

And here's what makes the whole being a life-saver thing even better: some pretty sweet rewards (not that donating a pint of blood to someone in need isn't reward enough).

First you have to call the American Red Cross (1-800-RED CROSS) or go to redcrossblood.org to make an appointment. Then you surrender your arm to the needle and get a little down time while being watched over by the Red Cross' capable volunteers.

When you feel up to heading back to the office again, you'll do so with a coupon for a free day pass to a state park. These freebies will be given out to all donors as a way to celebrate Adventure Month in June. You'll also be entered to win a complete family camping package from Eureka, which includes a week of camping and a voucher for L.L. Bean's Outdoor Discovery School.

It all adds up to a pretty tradeoff for something you have plenty of and someone else really needs.
