Turn in one of your get-out-of-work-early passes on Thursday and head out to Monument Square for the first Alive at 5 concert of the season.
On stage to kick things off will be The Kenya Hall Band and Model Airplane. Both local groups will be playing the funk and soul that will be the perfect way to get you revved up for your Friday.
Though the concert is free, be sure to bring some bucks for for the beer/pizza garden set up by Shipyard Brewing and Portland Pie. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better spot for happy hour and the food, music and beverages will go on until 7:30 p.m.
Up next week will be MAMM SLAM winners Beware of Pedestrians, teaming with Old Soul and Amy Allen. July 25 has ShaShaSha and The Other Bones. Aug. 1 features North of Nashville and Ghost of Paul Revere in a roots/country combo and the wrap-up concert on Aug. 8 has Jeff Beam, Sara Hallie Richardson and Arc of Sky.
