Hundreds of guests filled Ocean Gateway in Portland this evening for STRIVE's 6th annual live & silent auction. The soaring space overlooking the harbor was filled with a huge assortment of silent auction items, including art, travel packages, restaurant gift certificates and even furniture. As guests put in bids at the various tables, they enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and chatted with long-time friends and met new ones. Everyone was happy to support a nonprofit that hosts social, educational and employment training programs for 11 to 25 year olds with developmental disabilities.
At the end of the night, Jason Briggs, who heads STRIVE's parent organization PSL Services, and Jennifer Rooks, who hosts Maine Watch on MPBN, took to the stage to auction off 17 big ticket items.
The crowd responded to Jason and Jennifer's upbeat auction style with generous bids on everything from a private suite at the Boston Bruins with a visit from NHL Hall of Famer Ray Bourque to a week at a cottage in Boothbay Harbor with tickets to the Carousel Music Theater and a round of golf at the Boothbay Country Club.
Before they auctioned off a tequila tasting at Margarita's for four people with transportation from Maine Limo Company, Jason and Jennifer donned sombreros to get the crowd in the spirit. In the photo above, Jason shows off a bottle of Mexican tequila that was part of the package, along with the hats, of course.
When the hammer fell on the last item, the bids totaled more than $9,000.
I'll have a full report on how much the benefit event raised in total and who was there to support it in this weekend's Maine Sunday Telegram.
Until then, I hope to see you out and about.
