Christmas was in the air tonight during the Victoria Mansion's gala celebrating the annual ritual - now in its 26th year - of bringing in area designers to decorate for the holiday season. Touring the holiday wrapped mansion is a popular tradition for many local families, and this year the tours take place every day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Jan. 8 (with the exception of Christmas day and New Year's day).
Outside the opulent house museum, luminaires and garlands gave party guests a hint of the lavish decorations to come. Once inside, the mansion glitters with ornaments, ribbons and lights. Each room is decorated to represent a line from the "The Twelve Days of Christmas," and no two are alike.
To give you an idea of how creative these designers get, here's a quick peek at one of the transformed spaces. Decorated by Blue Elephant Catering and Events, this room's theme is "Nine Ladies Dancing," and the ladies just happen to be mannequins dressed as ballerinas from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
The Choral Arts Society added to the festive atmosphere at the party by singing carols. Here the vocal group is standing on the landing between the first and second floors. Earlier in the evening, they sang on the front stairs and their lovely voices carried up the nearby streets in the West End neighborhood.
IIf you want to read more about the party and who was there, don't forget to pick up a copy of the Dec. 12 edition of the Maine Sunday Telegram.
Until then, I hope to see you out and about.
