With less than a month left of Gov. John Baldacci's term in the Blaine House, a group of his close friends and family members gathered with him this evening at the Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland for the first tribute party held in his honor. The party was hosted by the governor's brother and sister-in-law Robert and Elizabeth Baldacci and good friends Ken Altshuler and Lynda Doyle.
The invite-only affair featured antipasto and pasta stations, Chianti on the tables and fun checkered tablecloths.
Maine Office of Tourism Director Pat Eltman - who was behind much of the party's decor - served her own Italian cookies for dessert.
After a handful of guests offered well wishes, remembrances and thanks from the microphone at the head of the room, Gov. Baldacci good-naturedly ended the tributes in order to turn the tables and thank all the people in the room, with a particular nod to First Lady Karen Baldacci.
I'll have a bunch of additional photos and more details about the party in the Dec. 19 edition of the Maine Sunday Telegram.
Until then, I hope to see you out and about.
