These sweetheart singers who charmed Maine State Music Theatre audiences during last summer's run of "Always ... Patsy Cline" returned to Brunswick tonight for the "Our Funny Valentines" party and show.
Charis Leos and Jenny Lee Stern treated us to their magnificent voices and funny banter as they belted out tunes from "Always ... Patsy Cline," songs about love (and lust) and numbers from the 2011 season, which will include "Annie," where we'll get to see Charis again, and "XANADU," where we'll get to see both Charis and Jenny. No one could miss Jenny's fashionable baby bump in her sexy red dress and three inch stilettos. I snapped the above picture back stage after the show. On stage at Bowdoin College's Studzinski Hall, Jenny and Charis were accompanied by Edward Reichert on piano. Edward will mark his 20th year with the theater when he appears in "Annie" this summer.
Prior to the performance, this Valentine's Day party kicked off with a cocktail and dessert reception with a silent auction in the formal lounge at Moulton Union.
When executive director Steven Peterson needed to address the party of roughly 190 guests, he simply went up to the second floor balcony and got our attention from there. On his word, we headed to the nearby music hall.
Before Charis and Jenny came out on stage, former TV news anchor Tory Ryden and her husband, Pat Scully, conducted a live auction. The items hitting the block included a NYC trip with airfare and Broadway tickets and a $3,000 Vintage Perkins console table. The crowd was very generous. During her appearance on the stage, Tory donned a fabulous red feather boa worn by Charis in Maine State Music Theatre's "Chicago."
I'll more photos and additional details about the party in the Feb. 20 edition of the Maine Sunday Telegram.
Until then, I hope to see you out and about.Tweet
