The hard work of volunteers and supporters was honored during tonight's Signature Chefs Auction to benefit the March of Dimes. Above is the 2011 Volunteer of the Year Geri Tamborelli being applauded by Cindy Williams of WCSH-6. Geri is the nursing director for Maine Medical Center's Family Birth Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and she also serves on the board of the Maine chapter of the March of Dimes.
Held at DiMillo's on the Water in Portland, the fundraiser featured tasty samples from 10 area chefs and a slew of silent auction items. The money raised at tonight's event helps fund the NICU Family Support program at Maine Medical Center, which provides parents with support, education and resources to help them during a time of crisis.
Others honored tonight were:
Rebecca Spear who received an award for her work as the chair of tonight's event committee and as a team leader of a group that participates in the annual March for Babies. She is surrounded by many of the chefs who donated their culinary artistry to tonight's party.
Volunteer and board member Kim Barton was another one of the folks recognized for her work on behalf of the organization.
Be sure to pick up a copy of the Oct. 16 edition of the Maine Sunday Telegram, where I'll have lots more details about the party and additional photos.
Until then, I hope to see you out and about.
